Durham County Unanimously Passes LGBTQ-Inclusive Nondiscrimination Ordinance

Last night, November 8, Durham County passed a nondiscrimination ordinance, protecting county residents from discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, natural hairstyle, disability, and more.

Equality NC wrote last night: “We are grateful that these protections have come to North Carolina’s sixth most populous county. In a state with profound inequality and injustice, we’re so pleased to see this ordinance protect our communities, particularly those experiencing multiple layers of marginalization. This ordinance will bring us to well over a quarter of people protected from discrimination in our state – and we know that the momentum from this will take us further.”

Durham County is now the sixteenth local government to pass nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people in 2021.
