Carrboro, North Carolina Becomes Second Municipality to Pass LGBTQ Nondiscrimination Ordinance This Week

Today, January 12, the Town Council of Carrboro, North Carolina took action on LGBTQ equality by passing an LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance. The ordinance passed with unanimous support.

It’s the second municipality in the state to adopt similar protections this week alone, joining Hillsborough’s Town Council yesterday, January 11.

Lydia E. Lavelle, Mayor of the Town of Carrboro, said today:

“These protections represent so much to so many. They require that we are treated the same as anyone else that engages in the life of our communities.”

Damon Seils, Carrboro Town Councilmember, said today:

"The people of Carrboro are ready for comprehensive nondiscrimination laws that include LGBTQ people. By acting locally in the absence of state leadership, we inspire communities across North Carolina to send a message that everyone is welcome, and to lead the way to protections at the state and federal levels."
